Remote working as mentioned in the earlier blog means working from any place of your choice or location independent working. Many of us would have already worked remotely, popularly called Work from home.
Is Digital Nomadism same as remote working?
Digital Nomadism means working remotely using technology or digital means like Internet, Phone, Laptops, VoIP and conducting your life like nomads and that’s the difference. Over last few years Digital nomadism has evolved as a lifestyle, which has all the ingredients of a healthy, happy & prosperous life.
Digital nomads are location independent adventurers and are traveling most of the time, exploring different parts of the world instead of working from traditional offices or from home. You can find Digital Nomads working from cafés, Libraries, co-working spaces, beach huts or even river side camps.
Is it popular?
Digital nomadism is the hotest trend in work culture and this trend is here to stay for long. More and more working individuals are adopting this lifestyle to escape the boring 9-5 traditional work culture which not only is bad for health but also affects their career growth.
According to LinkedIn’s 2019 Global Talent Trends report “In just the last two years, there’s been a 78% increase in job posts on LinkedIn that mention work flexibility. And in the space of only four years, there’s been a 24% increase in the number of people who say flexible work arrangements are a very important factor when considering a new job.”
And Flexible working is not only beneficial for employees but for employers too. As the competition among companies to hire and retain top talent intensifies, companies that embrace work flexibility have a huge competitive edge. Retaining more employees also means less recruitment costs. More practical benefit for companies is savings on office space costs. Dell for example has saved an average of $12 million a year with its flexible work program due to reduced office space requirements.
Remote working and Digital Nomadism have already proved to enhance work productivity & reduce work related stress. Also due to the rise of social networking services like Instagram, snapchat and facebook, millenials are willing to travel more than ever before and pursue their hobbies while doing their jobs.
In what industries do these Digital Nomads work?
Digital nomads are mostly working in industries like: marketing, design, IT, writing, media, tutoring, recruiting and consulting, among others. They might be remote employees of some companies or freelance workers. Now many digital nomads are choosing entrepreneurship, mostly in consulting, content, support and designing fields.
Software development is another emerging remote job category and developers are among the highest paid remote workers.
